YOU ARE NATURE’S BEST HOPE
I have been inspired by Douglas Tallamay’s book entitled “Nature’s Best Hope.” In his book Mr. Tallamay convincingly and at times poetically makes the case for each of us to turn half of our lawns into pollinator gardens as this can help reverse the impact of climate change. Mr. Tallamay makes it very clear how much we need nature as plants and animals are like life support systems for us as plants provide us with oxygen, clean our water and hold on to it. In addition plants sequester carbon from the atmosphere, build up topsoil and hold it in place unless we have removed plants including planting grass that does very little for us and actually is like suffocating us. We need to reduce our obsession with lawns and Mr. Tallamy describes how we can do that...plant pollinator gardens. It is true.
So what is a pollinator garden? Plant a variety of native plants that support so many living things that we need to survive and we will then have a chance to flourish not just survive.
